School of Orthodontics
The Brooks Rehabilitation College of Healthcare Sciences, School of Orthodontics offers an advanced specialty education program in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics in a 24-month program that combines didactic, clinical, and research components, leading to a Certificate in Orthodontics and a Master of Science in Dentistry (MSD). Students undertake an intensive, continuous, full-time course of study as well as supervised clinical training by expert orthodontic faculty in various contemporary orthodontic techniques. The course of study begins with orientation in July with course work and clinic starting in mid-August of each year. By the end of the first year it is expected that each student initiates comprehensive orthodontic treatment for at least fifty (50) patients after completion of a pre-clinical training course. Students are introduced to a variety of treatment philosophies, with an emphasis on pre-adjusted appliances and related techniques. Supervising clinical faculty present their philosophies in daily diagnosis and treatment planning seminars. A variety of clinical techniques are demonstrated and utilized in the school’s state-of-the-art orthodontic clinical facility.

The program in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and has been granted the accreditation status of “approval without reporting requirements.†The Commission is a specialized accrediting body recognized by the United States Department of Education. The Commission on Dental Accreditation has accredited the program in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics. However, accreditation of the program does not in itself constitute recognition of any dental specialty status.
