Level I

The Level I experiences will be during the Spring semester and Fall semesters in years one (1) and two (2) of the program. The purpose of Level I Fieldwork is to provide each student with an exposure to the healthcare field and to enrich their didactic coursework through direct observation and selected participation in various aspects of the therapy process (AOTA.org, 2017). Through this experience, students can increase their comfort level with relating to clients of various backgrounds and abilities (AOTA.org, 2017). Fieldwork experiences will be in traditional and nontraditional settings. The three (3) Level I Fieldwork rotations are full-time for one (1) week each.

Level II

The Level II experiences are comprised of two twelve (12) week sessions occurring during the Summer and Fall semesters of a student鈥檚 final year of study. The purpose of Level II Fieldwork is to 鈥渄evelop competent, entry-level, generalist occupational therapists鈥 (AOTA.org, 2017).

Graduates of the program will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).

After successful completion of this exam, the individual will be an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR). In addition, all states require licensure in order to practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT Certification Examination. Note that a felony conviction may affect a graduate鈥檚 ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination or attain state licensure.
