Frequently Asked Questions

Nurse Practitioner Programs

Is this program online?

No, all APRN programs are campus based programs. While the program takes advantage of innovative hybrid scheduling and online learning, students are required to meet in person.  Nurse Practitioner classes are held one day per week.  Clinical days may vary.

How long is the program?

Both part-time and full-time options are available. The MSN program will take 5 semesters or 21 months to complete as a full-time student and 8 semesters or 33 months to complete as a part-time student. BSN to DNP students only have a full-time pace option, and the degree is completed in 9 semesters or 36 months.

There is no part-time enrollment option for post-graduate certificate students.

Can I work and participate in one of the APRN programs?

We have no formal guidelines prohibiting students from working during the program. However, we do advise students that this is a rigorous program that requires a commitment of time, and students should plan accordingly.

Do I need a GRE?

Students whose overall undergraduate GPA is above a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale are not required to complete the GRE.

How many clinical hours are involved?

Students will experience anywhere from 600 hours - 866 hours as part of their degree. The majority of the clinical hours are completed within a clinical immersion course in the final semester of the program. During this final semester, the student will spend approximately 3 days per week in clinical.

How much is the program?

All Tuition information can be found online here. Tuition can change from year to year.

Do I need a BSN or can I apply with my non-nursing bachelor’s degree?

A BSN from a regionally accredited college or university is required to apply for all APRN programs. Your BSN program must also be accredited through either ACEN, CCNE, or CNEA.

When can I apply?

Our program accepts students once a year for the fall semester. Applications are reviewed throughout the year; those accepted will start fall semester. If you are not selected during the admission cycle and wish to reapply, you will be required to resubmit an application the subsequent year.

Can I take classes as a non-degree or transient student?

Unfortunately, due to limited space we cannot accommodate students who are not fully admitted as Jacksonville University students in the APRN programs.

Are Transfer credits accepted?

We will evaluate any graduate coursework completed with grades of 'B' or higher from regionally accredited MSN and DNP programs for transfer credit. If coursework is determined as equivalent for a course in our MSN program, it may then be applied to exempt students from taking the course again during their MSN program at JU. All APRN students are capped at 9 credit hours of transfer credit, and all transfer credit must be transferred in at the time of admission, and will not be accepted after a student has started the program.
