Professional Information

Dr. Teri Chenot joined the faculty in April of 2010 as an Associate Professor of Nursing. She served as a Patient Safety Officer prior to this appointment. She was awarded tenure in 2016. She was the Founding Director of the graduate interprofessional Healthcare Quality and Safety program in 2019. She taught primarily in the graduate programs and served as a DNP chair for several students. She was promoted to full professor in 2021. She served as the Director of the QSEN Regional Institute of Jacksonville University from 2019-2022 which was one of only three in the country. The institute hosted several successful interprofessional patient safety forums during that timeframe. She collaborated with the University of Florida College of Medicine - Jacksonville to launch the Robert L. Wears Patient Safety Leadership Awards which gained international recognition. Her research focus is in patient safety, quality, and health outcomes. Her dissertation, Frameworks for Patient Safety in the Nursing Curriculum, was a mixed methods design that resulted in a validated survey, Healthcare Professionals Patient Safety Assessment Curriculum Survey (HPPSACS), that measures patient safety awareness among pre-licensure nursing students and was published in the Journal of Nursing Education. In 2019 she was inducted as a Fellow into the American Academy of Nursing and serves on their Quality Expert Panel. In 2021 she was inducted into the 2020 Class of Distinguished Scholar Fellows in the Nursing Academy of the National Academies of Practice. In 2021 Dr. Chenot was awarded the QSEN Linda Cronenwett Leadership Award. In 2022 she was awarded the Excellence in Tobacco Free Campuses and Higher Education Award by the Tobacco Free Jacksonville organization.  

Dr. Chenot was the Co-Investigator of A Statewide Initiative Integrating Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) Through Academic/Clinical Partnerships to Improve Health Outcomes which was a $45,000 three-year Florida Blue Foundation grant – funded January 2014 – December 2016. 

Dr. Chenot served on the QSEN Strategic Board for over a decade and served on various QSEN committees including as a presenter at their highly successful QSEN International Forums between 2012-2022. She has authored publications in the American Journal of Medical Quality, American Nurse Journal, Journal of Nursing Education, Journal of Professional Nursing, Journal of Research in Nursing, and Nursing Outlook. She has served as a manuscript reviewer for several peer-reviewed nursing journals since 2010. Dr. Chenot served both as a chair and member of several Keigwin School of Nursing committees, the Brooks Rehabilitation College of Healthcare Sciences committees, and the 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ committees including the tenure and promotion committee.
