About the Program

91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ’s award-winning Brooks Rehabilitation College of Healthcare Sciences is now offering a Pathways to Speech Language Pathology program. For one semester, coursework will be completed online. The program then continues in Italy where you'll travel for in-person field and study experience in May of 2025.

Pathways to Speech Language Pathology is specifically designed for students who have completed a baccalaureate degree in a field other than Communication Sciences and Disorders and need to complete specific required coursework before applying to a master’s program in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP). The courses meet the pre-admission requirements necessary for consideration and potential admission into an accredited SLP university in the United States and can be completed in one summer.

How to ApplyAdmissions

  • This program first requires acceptance into 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ. The application for Summer 2025 will open in August 2024.
  • Upon acceptance, you will receive further information from the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders and the Study Abroad & Away office.

Italy Field Experience Itinerary 

Tentative schedule for May 5 - 15, 2025

  • Day One (Monday, May 5): Arrival in Naples
    • Morning: Transfer from Naples Airport.
    • Afternoon: Program begins and check in.
    • Evening: Group dinner.

  • Day Two (Tuesday, May 6): Introduction to the Italian Healthcare System
    • Morning: Guided tour of Pompeii.
    • Afternoon: Tour and lunch at vineyard.
    • Evening: Dinner on your own.

  • Day Three (Wednesday, May 7): Sorrento
    • Morning: Walking tour of Sorrento and lunch on your own.
    • Afternoon: Lectures on "The Public Healthcare System of Italy" and "Comparing and Contrasting Public vs Private Healthcare Systems."
    • Evening: Sunset boat cruise, dinner on your own.

  • Day Four (Thursday, May 8): SLP in Southern Italy
    • Morning: Leture on Family Healthcare.
    • Coffee break in town.
    • Afternoon: Lecture with local Italian Speech Language Pathologist.
    • Evening: Free time to enjoy Sorrento on your own.

  • Day Five (Friday, May 9): Clinical Observations
    • Day: Clinical observations at local clinics and hospitals in Naples at Villa Ginestre and Villa Azzurra.
    • Group lunch included.
    • Evening: Free time to enjoy Sorrento on your own.

  • Day Six (Saturday, May 10): Guided Tour of the Amalfi Coast
    • Morning: Breakfast in Positano included.
    • Day: Guided tour by private bus visiting Positano and Amalfi.
    • Evening: Dinner on your own in Sorrento.

  • Day Seven (Sunday, May 11): Hike and Lecture
    • Day: Hike the Path of the Gods with guide.
    • Lunch on your own.
    • Afternoon: Lecture with Professor Capeci.
    • Late afternoon: Cooking class and dinner at Villa Barone.

  • Day Eight (Monday, May 12): Full Day Trip to the Island of Capri
    • Day: Travel by ferry with a tour guide.
    • Lunch included.
    • Evening: Dinner on your own in Sorrento.

  • Day Nine (Tuesday, May 13) Depart Sorrento and Arrive in Rome
    • Morning: Leave Sorrento.
    • Afternoon: Arrive in Rome.
    • Evening: Guided tour and group dinner.

  • Day Ten (Wednesday, May 14): Full Day in Rome 
    • Morning: Roman food tour.
    • Afternoon: Vatican tour.
    • Evening: Dinner on your own in Rome.

  • Day Eleven (Thursday, May 15): Departure from Rome (FCO)
    • Morning: Check out of hotel and depart for airport.
