Two years after visiting with the 91香蕉视频 College of Law鈥檚 inaugural 14 students, lawyers from Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP, along with Florida Blue and its parent company, GuideWell, returned to the school for an all-day workshop. They met with those same students, now third-year law students (3Ls) nearing graduation, along with their first- and second-year peers.
In 2023, GuideWell, Florida Blue and Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP, one of the world鈥檚 preeminent law firms, provided $125,000 in scholarship support for the JU College of Law. The scholarship was intended to promote equal opportunity in legal education. Lawyers from GuideWell--Florida Blue and Cravath hosted a panel for students that day focusing on career paths and the importance of broad representation in law.
Some of the same lawyers returned this year for an all-day workshop aimed at showing students what it is like to work in litigation and corporate law. The event was led and organized by Charlie Joseph, corporate affairs group executive vice president and chief legal officer of GuideWell and Florida Blue; Karin DeMasi, managing partner for litigation at Cravath; Minh Van Ngo, corporate partner at Cravath; and Hannah Dwyer, litigation senior associate at Cravath. Joseph also serves on the Jacksonville University Board of Trustees.
鈥淚'm inspired and encouraged by the next generation of legal leaders at Jacksonville University鈥檚 College of Law. As a proud member of the Jacksonville community that GuideWell and Florida Blue call home, I feel fortunate to watch these students develop into the future of our city's legal profession,鈥 Joseph said. 鈥淏y providing resources and mentorship, we hope the students feel empowered to make a meaningful impact in our community and the broader world.鈥
This year鈥檚 all-day workshop included discussions on several areas of law. Morning sessions provided an overview from Cravath attorneys of the types and stages of litigation, from investigation to appeal, and the core skills of successful litigators. Students also heard a session on the types of corporate law and the anatomy of a deal.
The afternoon consisted of a discussion on professionalism, a Q&A session and networking.
鈥淛U Law should be incredibly proud of its inaugural class, as well as the talented students that follow them,鈥 DeMasi said. 鈥淲e feel privileged to have spent the day networking with Jacksonville鈥檚 next generation of lawyers, whose passion and hard work will make an enormous contribution to the community.鈥
